We rely on food, yet many of us don’t stop to think about what goes into the production of the food we purchase and consume. Much work goes into preparing foods and getting them to the shelves of grocery stores and inevitably to your plate. The world of food processing is vast and for a good reason. Processed foods make up most of the food that we eat, so the industry, which does the processing, is quite large. There are many different forms of equipment necessary to prepare our food for consumption, most of which we would never realize had significant roles.

Preparation Equipment

The types of equipment that prepare food vary depending on what is being processed. These machines focus on preparing raw foods for the latter part of processing. Many of these machines complete tasks such as cleaning, sorting, grading,  and skinning the foods. Often, undesirable artifacts such as bone and debris are found in food, and it is up to these machines to pick them out. They are also tasked without cleaning the food to prepare for the next stages of processing.

A major piece of equipment in the food preparation stage is interestingly metal detectors. Metal detectors, such as Loma Metal Detectors, play important roles in the commercial food industry, keeping the food we purchase safe to consume. Inspecting food products for harmful metals is essential to the safety of the food we eat. The metal detectors used in the preparation of food keep health standards high, and every food producer should have some form of metal detecting equipment as part of their production line.

Heat Processing

Another common type of food processing equipment is heat processing. These machines are tasked with transferring heat to the necessary food items. This type of equipment changes the state of the food to aid the processes of preservation. When food is heated, it changes not only its physical appearance but its chemical and molecular structure. This processing stage also helps to rid the food of any harmful bacteria, which can be cooked out by the heat. This step also helps to ensure that your food tastes excellent and is not raw or undercooked.

Preservation Equipment

Preservation of food is essential. This stage of the food preservation cycle aims at ensuring your food won’t spoil or rot while on shelves at the grocery store. Some of the machines use chemicals to preserve the food, while others use methods such as freezing. Some machines also use salt to preserve food. No matter how it’s done, these machines aim at keeping your food in an edible condition so you and your family can enjoy a nice meal!
